Ve-gone wrong: Over half of young Brits have ‘attempted’ to become vegan in last 12 months

The change in lifestyle is short-lived, with 28 percent of adults finding it simply “too difficult” to stick to, reverting back to their meat eating ways after just three and a half months.

THE SUN: ‘As many as 56 percent of Brits between the ages of 16 and 29 have recently set out to copy celebrity vegans… by switching to a plant-based diet – while a further 45 percent of those in their 30s and 40s have done the same. However, for the majority, the change in lifestyle is short-lived, with 28 percent of adults finding it simply “too difficult” to stick to and the average Brit who has attempted veganism, reverting back to their meat eating ways after just three and a half months. A third of those that attempted veganism admitted they simply missed meat, while a quarter said after a while they found it hard to know what to eat.

The poll of 2,000 adults by Kellogg’s found 16 percent of those who gave a plant-based diet a go said it was impossible when eating out in restaurants and 27 percent said the new lifestyle was too expensive to become a long-term change… Nearly one in twenty (four percent) were eager to emulate celebrities by eliminating meat and animal products from their diet. Of those that have attempted going vegan, 72 percent said they would have lasted much longer if they had more support from their friends and family. But as many as 88 percent said it takes real determination to be a full-time vegan… But those that carried on said they had more energy (38 percent), lost weight (39 percent) and felt generally healthier (19 percent)’.
